Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra

My Dear Young Indians,

Today is the 139th birthday of Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra.
Madan Lal Dhingra was a friend/ companion of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (Veer Savarkar)

He was born on 18 September 1883 in Amritsar, India in a well-to-do affluent family.
Though his father as a Govt servant of the British, he was a revolutionary at heart.
His revolutionary activities resulted in his expulsion from various colleges where he studied.

Finally, his elder brother convinced him to go to Britain for higher studies.

You can take an Indian out of India BUT you cannot take India out of an Indian

In Britain Madan Lal Dhingra, a patriot Indian, came in contact with Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and Shyamji Krishan Varma.

Shyamji Krishan Varma was a patriotic journalist and lawyer who managed a student hostel for Indians by the name ‘India House’.

Madan lal Dhingra was influenced by Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (who later came to be known as ‘Veer Savarkar’)

In 1905, the British Govt portioned Bengal into two.

Partition of Bengal had a deep and long lasting effect on many revolutionaries. Madan Lal Dhingra was outraged by the decision of the British to partition Bengal.

The British had cited administrative reasons for portioning Bengal but the actual reason was to curb the feeling of nationalism and independence that was gaining strength in Bengal.

East Bengal was dominated by Muslim population and West Bengal was dominated by Hindus. Division on religious lines was a result of ‘Divide and rule’ mentality of the British.

Sadly, when Indian gained independence, our ‘so-called’ and ‘self-glorified’ leaders who formed the Govt in 1947 agreed to partition of the country on religious line.

Muslim dominated East Bengal became Pakistan and Hindu dominated West Bengal stayed with India.

Coming back to Madan Lal Dhingra…..

George Curzon was the Viceroy of India when Bengal was portioned.
In history books, this man is referred to as ‘Lord Curzon’ but I have deliberately not used the title of ‘Lord’.

A foreigner who ruled my country and looted my country’s wealth & cultural health can never be a “Lord” for me.

Hurt by the partition of Bengal, Madan lal Dhinga had attemped to kill George Curzon but was unsuccessful.

A man named ‘William Curzon Wyllie’ was the Head of secret police in Britain and was trying to gather information about Indian revolutionaries in Britain. ‘William Curzon Wyllie’ had earlier served the British Govt in India also.

As per an Indian nationalist journal- William Curzon Wyllie was an "old unrepentant foe of India who have fattened on the misery of the Indian peasant ever since he began his career".

On 1 July 1909, Madan lal Dhingra killed William Curzon Wyllie in London

He fired shots from his pistol instantly killing Curzon Wyllie.

A parsi man by the name Dr Cawas Lalcaca tried to save Curzon Wyllie hence Madan lal Dhingra had to fire a shot at him also.

Madan lal Dhingra was arrested.

On 17 August 1909 he was hanged by the British in Pentonville Prison in London.

Martyrs never die.

My Dear Young Indians,

"जब इंसान अपने विवेक से प्रेरित होकर ढृढ़ निश्चय कर लेता है तब वह सब कुछ कर सकता है"

‘विवेक’ का अर्थ है … अपनी सोच और समझदारी

Only YOU can motivate YOURSELF.

Others—like me—can only add to your knowledge and make you aware about what other self- motivated Indians did for the country.

Finally, it is YOU who has to decide the course of your life.

Nothing in this world is FREE.

“Sacrifice” is the price of “Glory”

Motivate YOURSELF to pay this price for India’s GLORY.

INDIA belongs to you.
INDIA is your responsibility.

Jai Hind !
