Marshal of Indian Air Force - Arjan Singh
My Dear Young Indians,
Today is the Birthday of Marshal of Indian Air Force Arjan Singh.
He was born on 15 April 1919.
He passed away at the age of 98 years on 16 September 2017.
He served as the 3rd Chief of Air Staff from 1964 to 1969, leading the Air Force through the India-Pakistan war of 1965.
He was the last living 5 Star Officer of The Indian Armed Forces.
The 5 Star Officers do not operationally command the Forces. They are designated as 5 Star Officers as a mark of respect for their exemplary service to the nation in uniform.
And the best part is that they can wear their uniform till the last day of their lives. They never retire.. They are presumed to be in service always.
Getting to the position of a 5 Star Officer is not easy. Till date only 3 Officers have been awarded the rank of a 5 Star Officer….
.
Field Marshal K M Cariappa (he was the first chief of Indian army after independence)
.
Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw (he was the chief if Indian Army during the war with Pakistan in 1971)
