My Dear Young and Little Indians, What is Zero ? Zero is ‘Nothing’. But the world of Mathematics has no value without this ‘Nothing’. Our numeric system (numbers) consists of 10 basic numbers – 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. All other numbers are made as a combination of these 10 numbers or digits. There was a time when there were only 9 numbers. There was no number ‘0’. Before the invention of Zero, mathematicians struggled to make the simplest arithmetic calculations. Ancient civilisations around the world had a vague concept of what we call ‘zero’ today. Zero was not a number then. It was a ‘place holder’ They used a ‘blank space’ or a ‘random figure’ as a place holder instead of zero. Now what is a ‘place holder’ ? Take the number 893. My Dear Young and Little Indians, This is the history of River Ganga -the most sacred river of India and Indians. Lets go back in history to Raja Ikshvaku राजा इक्ष्वाकु. This was the start of a dynasty that came to be known as इक्ष्वाकु वंश Raja Harishchandr राजा हरिश्चंद्र who is remembered for being truthful and true to his words was a descendant of Raja Ikshvaku राजा इक्ष्वाकु Generations later it was Raja Sagar राजा सगर who ruled Ayodhya. My Dear Young and Little Indians, Guru Tegh Bahadur is the ninth (9th) Sikh Guru. As per the Gregorian Calendar he was born on 1 April 1621 in Amritsar, Punjab, INDIA. However, his birthday is celebrated as per the Bikrami Calendar or Vikram Samvat. Guru Tegh Bahadur was anointed as the Sikh Guru in the Gregorian Year 1664.  Guru Tegh Bahadur is known as Hind Di Chadar हिन्द दी चादर meaning the Shield of India.
