Subedar Sanjay Kumar, Param Vir Chakra.
My Dear Young and Little Indians,
Actions speak louder than words
You are familiar with this saying ? I am sure you are.
No amount of good words can match one good action.
Today let us talk about a man who proved his mettle and worth with his actions.
Subedar Sanjay Kumar, Param Vir Chakra
Today is his 45th birthday. He was born on 3rd March 1976. He hails from Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh.
In 2019 we had the good fortune of meeting our “God in Uniform”
I got in touch with him with the help of a friend of mine. I spoke to him requesting for an appointment.
We reached his office on time and you know... he was there at the gate waiting to receive us.
A man who is beyond the ordinary, a man who has done the unimaginable, a man who has defied death, a man who commands respect where ever he goes and where ever he is talked about has the humility to be at the gate to receive his unknown guests !
My dear Young and Little Indians....... my experience of meeting so many 'men in uniform' who have put their life on the line for India and families of martyrs has taught me --
Humility is the character of the brave. And brave are those who have the courage to take up challenges in life for someone else's benefit and for the larger good.
Remember, living for own-self is an animal instinct. Working and living for ones own benefit is the instinct of every living being.
Be different. Bring a difference to other's lives.
Today morning I conveyed my best wishes over Whatsapp to my "God in Uniform" Sub. Sanjay Kumar, Param Vir Chakra on his birthday.
And I received a reply within the next two minutes ! Lucky me !! ЁЯШЗ
We had spent 90 minutes with him.
He narrated the war that he and his fellow soldiers of 13th Battalion of Jammu & Kashmir Rifles (13 JKRIF) fought on 4 July 1999.
You have to break the laws of logic to be honoured with the Param Vir Chakra. During the Kargil war Subedar Sanjay Kumar did the impossible.
His Param Vir Chakra citation reads as below-
Rifleman Sanjay Kumar volunteered to be the leading scout of the attacking column tasked to capture area Flat Top of Point 4875 in the Mushkoh Valley on 4 July 1999. During the attack when enemy automatic fire from one of the sangars posed stiff opposition and stalled the column, Rifleman Sanjay Kumar realizing the gravity of the situation and with utter disregard to his personal safety, charged at the enemy. In the ensuing hand-to-hand combat, he killed three of the intruders and was himself seriously injured. Despite his injuries, he charged onto the second sangar. Taken totally by surprise, the enemy left behind a Universal Machine Gun and started running.
Rifleman Sanjay Kumar picked up the UMG and killed the fleeing enemy. Although bleeding profusely, he refused to be evacuated. The brave action on his part motivated his comrades and they took no notice of the treacherous terrain and charged onto the enemy and wrested the area Flat Top from the hands of the enemy.
Rifleman Sanjay Kumar displayed most conspicuous gallantry, cool courage and devotion to duty of an exceptionally high order in the face of the enemy
