Shivaram Hari Rajguru

24 August 2021

My Dear Young and Little Indians,

Shivaram Hari Rajguru , remembered as ‘Rajguru’ is 113 years young today.
Martyrs never die !

He was martyred on 23 March 1931 along with his friends in life and death- Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev.

Rajguru was born on 24 Aug 1908 at a place called ‘Khed’ near Pune.

‘Khed’ near Pune.

His father passed away when he was 6 years old.
He studied in Khed and then in Pune.

He was influenced by Chandrashekhar Azad and he joined Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) where he became friends with Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev.

Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) was formed by Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil. Initially this organization was called Hindustan Republican Association (HRA).

We had remembered Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil on his birthday- The Man with a Pen & Pistol

In 1928, "Simon Commission" came to India. Simon commission was a group of seven British Parliamentarians who came to India to study and suggest constitutional reforms in India which was the largest colony of British.

This Commission was opposed by Indians because no Indian was made a member of this commission.

In Lahore, Lala Lajpat Rai led a protest against Simon Commission. British Police Superintendent James Scott ordered a 'lathi' charge on the protesters.

Lala Lajpat Rai was grievously injured and later passed away. Hindustan Socialist Republic Association (HSRA) vowed revenge and planned to kill James Scott because he was the one who had ordered ‘Lathi’ charge.

On 17 December 1928, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Chandrashekhar Azad killed British Police Officer John Saunders instead of James Scott because of mistaken identity.

Rajguru was martyred at the age of 22 years on 23 March 1931 when he was hanged by the British along with Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev.

बस देश के लिए एक बार मर जाऊँ, फिर चैन से जीऊँगा

My Dear Young and Little Indians,

He was 22 years young when he died for India.
His father had passed away long back. His mother was all alone.

Why did he not live for his mother?
Why did he die for India?

The reason, I believe, is emotional attachment, commitment and a feeling of responsibility towards an objective or ideology that he considered bigger than his own self.

For Rajguru, it was INDIA.
For us, it should be INDIA.

Jai Hind !
