Best Wishes on Vijaydashmi Dushhara दश-हरा ( and not Dussehra )

My Dear Young and Little Indians, आप सभी को दशहरा ( विजय दशमी ) की शुभकामनाएं I purposefully greeted you in Hindi. The objective was to write/ pronounce the name of our festival correctly. Its is दश-हरा and not दश-हIरा In English both these names are written as Dush-hara. In English people write and pronounce it as Dussehra/ Dussera also. Let us write and pronounce our names correctly. Indian names have a science, logic and history. Some of us believe that this festival is called Dush-hara because Ravan had ten heads and he was defeated on this day. But this is a wrong understanding. दश means TEN...... Today the date/ तिथि  as per Vikram Samvat Panchang is दशमी Month - आश्विन Fortnight - शुक्ल Date/ तिथि - दस or दशमी And it is हरा not हारा हारा means Defeated Shri Ram killed Ravan NOT to defeat him. He killed Ravan because he wanted to relieve Ravan of a curse. हरा or हरना means to take-away and relieve someone of pain/ curse etc.   What was the curse ? What is the history of Vijaydash

Madan Lal Dhingra was a friend/ companion of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (Veer Savarkar) He was born on 18 September 1883 in Amritsar, India in a well-to-do affluent family. Though his father as a Govt servant of the British, he was a revolutionary at heart. His revolutionary activities resulted in his expulsion from various colleges where he studied. Shyamji Krishan Varma was a patriotic journalist and lawyer who managed a student hostel for Indians by the name ‘India House’. My Dear Indians, June 5-6 is the anniversary of "Operation Blue Star" What was "Operation Blue Star" ? “Operation Blue Star” was a product of Mrs Indira Gandhi’s lust for power. For the Indian Army it was an operation that had to be executed on the orders of the Govt and it was executed successfully. But the situation requiring “Operation Blue Star” could have been avoided had Indira Gandhi not been hungry for power, at every cost. Indira Gandhi did NOT learn her lessons in 1975 when she imposed Emergency and suspended Democracy in India.   What led to “Operation Blue Star” in June 1984 ? What happened before and after “Operation Blue Star” ? This book is written by Lieutenant General Kuldip Singh Brar, Vir Chakra. He is the Indian Army Officer who planned and executed "Operation Blue Star" .   Lt Gen Kuldip Singh Brar is a Sikh. Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was a Sikh. Maj Gen Shahbeg Singh was a Sikh. Capt (later Colonel) Jasbir Singh Raina is a Sikh S

My Dear Young Indians, Today is 16 of May 2022. 47 years back on 16 May 1975, the Kingdom of Sikkim had merged with the Union of India. On the western side of Sikkim is Nepal, on the eastern side is Bhutan and on the northern side is Tibet. Sikkim has three main communities- the Lepchas, the Bhutias and the Nepalis. The history of the kingdom of Sikkim dates back to centuries. This is a story of struggle for power, existence and a ‘curse’. Centuries back Sikkim was inhabited by the Lepchas. In the 17 th century immigrants from Tibet (called Bhutias) stated settling in Sikkim. The Bhuddist Bhutias wanted to convert this region into a Buddhist Kingdom. In 1641 CE, Phutsong Namgyal became the first King or ‘Chogyal’. The Namgyal Kingdom was Buddhist and Tibet was considered as the religious authority. The name Sikkim is derived from ‘Su Khyim’ ‘Su’ means ‘New’ ‘Khyim’ means ‘Palace’ or ‘House’ The new palace of the Chogyal Phutsong Namgyal was referred to as ‘Su Khyim’.
